A final-year student of the Mass Communication Department at Interlink Polytechnic, identified as Adeife Oluwaseun, has reportedly died in a tragic road accident while attempting to pay for his semester examination.
According to eyewitnesses who spoke with Hope FM correspondent, Joseph Oyelami, the incident occurred in Ilesa and involved a Toyota bus with registration number FST-644YL (Lagos) and the student’s motorcycle.
Reports indicated that some students were prevented from entering the examination hall due to their inability to provide evidence of payment for their examinations.
Oluwaseun was said to have rushed to a bank in Ilesa to complete the payment process before attempting to return to school in time for his first examination paper. Sadly, he was involved in a fatal accident on his way back.
The unfortunate development has thrown students of the institution into mourning, with many describing his death as a painful loss to the school community and the Mass Communication Department.
Friends and colleagues have also expressed condolences to the bereaved family, classmates, and loved ones during this difficult period.
Addressing students and protesters after the incident, the Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa, Oba Moses Agunsoye, appealed for calm, assuring the public that security agencies were handling the matter and that justice would be served.
As of the time of filing this report, the management of Interlink Polytechnic had yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
Meanwhile, parents and stakeholders have called on the institution’s management to establish an on-campus payment system or partner with commercial banks within Ijebu-Jesa to reduce the risks students face travelling to Ilesa for school-related payments.
