The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Wednesday, December 25, and Thursday, December 26, 2024, as public holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day.
Additionally, Wednesday, January 1, 2025, has been designated a public holiday for New Year’s celebrations.
This announcement was made in Abuja on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement issued by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
In his statement, Dr Tunji-Ojo extended warm festive greetings to all Nigerians, urging citizens to embrace the spirit of the season by reflecting on the values of love, peace, and unity.
He emphasized that the Christmas period is a time for spiritual reflection and national renewal.
“As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences,” the Minister stated.
Dr Tunji-Ojo also called on Nigerians to remain steadfast in their commitment to fostering peace, unity, and progress for the nation’s development.
He assured citizens of the Federal Government’s dedication to ensuring security and prosperity across the country.
Expressing optimism about the future, the Minister highlighted the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, expressing confidence that the new year would usher in a better and more prosperous economy.
The Minister concluded by wishing all Nigerians a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
