Ogun State, June 22, 2026 — The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has raised concerns over alleged discrepancies in the disbursement of Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) allocations at D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, Ogun State, calling for an immediate investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a statement issued on June 22, 2026, NANS President, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, said findings and student reports indicated inconsistencies between funds reportedly disbursed by NELFUND and the amounts reflected in students’ institutional invoices.
According to the association, while the NELFUND portal showed that a student received ₦355,000, the institution’s invoice reportedly recorded ₦236,000 for the same student, raising concerns over a possible gap in financial accountability.
NANS described the alleged discrepancy as “serious and unacceptable,” warning that any diversion or mismanagement of funds meant to support students’ education undermines public trust in the scheme.
“NELFUND was established to expand access to education. Any attempt by individuals or institutions to exploit it for personal gain is a betrayal of public trust,” Afeez stated.
The student body strongly condemned any alleged misappropriation, inflation, or diversion of NELFUND funds and called for a full-scale EFCC investigation into the financial operations of the institution regarding the loan scheme.
NANS also urged the management of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic to publicly clarify the reported discrepancies and ensure transparency in all NELFUND-related transactions. It further called on NELFUND authorities to strengthen monitoring systems to prevent potential abuse of the programme.
Reaffirming its position, the student association said it would not compromise on accountability in the education sector, insisting that all affected students deserve clarity and possible refunds where discrepancies are confirmed.
