The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) is intensifying efforts to combat fraud by partnering with anti-corruption agencies, the military, paramilitary bodies, and other institutions.
The goal is to build a fraud-resistant, transparent, and efficient student loan system, aligning with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
At a recent workshop in Abuja, NELFUND MD Akintunde Sawyerr emphasized collaboration to co-develop tools for due diligence, identity protection, and fund tracking, stressing the need for strong internal controls and public education. The initiative includes joint audits, whistleblower systems, data verification, and risk assessments.
Sawyerr noted that NELFUND has already onboarded over 400 institutions and built an automated loan application system. He urged collective action to prevent fraud and ensure the integrity of the process.
General Christopher Musa, represented by Air Commodore Friday Bassey, appealed for priority access to loans for children of fallen soldiers, citing their parents’ sacrifices.
